Richard E. Berner

Richard “Zeke” Berner is an experienced attorney that is dedicated to ensuring his clients receive a tailored approach to their legal concerns. Mr. Berner’s practice is focused in the areas of criminal defense and general civil litigation.

Prior to joining Johnson Duffie, Mr. Berner gained invaluable courtroom experience by having served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office. In his prior role, Mr. Berner oversaw the prosecution of hundreds of criminal cases ranging from felony drug delivery, robbery, driving under the influence, theft offenses, and assault. Mr. Berner was also specifically designated to oversee the Cumberland County Drug Task Force, where he directly advised law enforcement concerning investigations into complex drug delivery operations. This experience gives Mr. Berner the unique ability to understand the point of view from the prosecution and advise his clients on how to best proceed. Whether it be negotiating a favorable plea agreement or taking a case to trial, Mr. Berner is well equipped to handle your specific criminal matter.

Mr. Berner also brings a wealth of experience in the field of criminal appeals. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Berner has successfully argued complex criminal issues before the Pennsylvania Superior Court on approximately ten different occasions. Mr. Berner has also engaged in multiple Post-Conviction Relief Act (PCRA) hearings before the Court of Common Pleas. On top of this, Mr. Berner directly oversaw the summary appeal traffic court in Cumberland County.
